The days are getting hotter and one does not have the energy to turn-on the stove and make hot beverages. Accept it! And especially after a long day at work or school, when one comes home completely drained and is sweating, it is impossible to do kitchen work which requires using the gas or electric burners. All you want to do is stir-up a quick and chilled drink which you can enjoy in a room being cooled by an air-conditioner.
Would you like to have some tea or any hot drink?
Instead, go for these refreshing drinks which are cold.
Here are recipes of drinks to cool you down in summer. The ingredients are simple and not time consuming to mix up and drink.
Lemon & Strawberry Affair
Freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 1/2 cups; Sugar 1/2 cup; Water 4 cups; Fresh strawberries as many as you like (pureed); Fresh cream 1 cup; Lemon slices (garnish); Ice
All you have to do is this: Place the lemon juice, sugar, and 1 cup water in a blender. Blend until the sugar dissolves. Then, add 3 more cups water, pureed strawberries and cream. Add lots of ice and blend till thick, and pour in glasses. In the end, add a few slices of lemon to garnish.
Coca-cola; Ice-cube mold; Whipped cream/ Vanilla ice cream
In an ice-cube mold, pour coca-cola in it to fill the spaces till the top (like you do with water). Put the tray in the freezer for at least a day before you use the cubes. Take a glass, add a good amount of coke-cubes. Then, fill the same glass with liquid coke. Lastly, add a generous lump of whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream and serve. Martha Stewart does this recipe best with just whipped cream. But 6degrees tried it with vanilla ice-cream and it tasted incredibly refreshing.
Cucumber and Watermelon Juice
Watermelon cubes 1 cup; Cucumber 1; Mint leaves; Lemon juice 2 tablespoons; Sugar; Ice
Put these very simple ingredients in a blender and let the blades do their work. Serve the delicious juice in glasses and garnish with a mint leaf or more.
Watermelon as much as you like (seedless); Pomegranate juice 1 cup; Ice; Mint leaves
Watermelon is high on water. This is why water is not an additional ingredient in this recipe. In a blender, add watermelon chunks, pomegranate juice and lots of ice. Serve in tall glasses and add mint leaves to garnish.
Mango chunks 2 1/2 cups; Yogurt 1 1/2 cups; Ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon; Honey 1 tablespoon; Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
Is there a summer in Pakistan without mangoes? No! So skipping a drink which has this heavenly fruit as a core ingredient is impossible. To make this smoothie, toss all the ingredients into a blender and blend till the mix is all smooth. Pour the smoothie into glasses and serve.
Hot Vs Cold in a Pakistani Summer
For once, keep a hot and a chilled drink together. Some magnet in the chilled drink will attract you to it. It is like an oven outside, no? Wouldn’t a cold drink tantalize your taste buds? Imagine what that one sip from a glass filled with any drink will do to you that very second.
