A woman has taken the status of president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at one of Pakistan’s largest banks, United Bank Limited (UBL). Announced on Monday, Sima Kamil replaces outgoing CEO Wajahat Hussain. If this isn’t inspiring for men and women, then what is?
UBL is one of the fastest growing banks in Pakistan, with over 1,281 branches nationwide. In face, 22 of these are Islamic banking branches with one branch which is catering export processing zone in Karachi. The bank also has 18 branches worldwide.
The internet is on fire since the announcement. “Sima Kamil” has been trending on Twitter and the commentary is interesting. After all, it isn’t everyday that a woman becomes a leader of an organization or institution in Pakistan.
In the first selection is the tweet of Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy who is “proud” of Sima’s accomplishments. Sharmeen is the first Pakistani to have bagged not one, but two Oscar awards.
So much respect for Sima Kamil and so very proud as a Pakistani of her accomplishments: https://t.co/dz8BLufY7s
